Huey's Hints

Wine vinegar

To make wine vinegar, just combine any leftover wine with an equal quantity of cider vinegar and fresh herbs and leave for 2 weeks before straining.

Hi and welcome to Huey’s Cooking Club.

Iain Hewitson

Well, it’s hard to believe it’s that time of year again. And, what a year it’s been! A number of milestones, which include of course our 10th Anniversary and a rather significant birthday for me, which reminded me of George Burns who once said: “I want nothing to do with natural food. At my age, I need all the preservatives I can get”. (Although, I don’t think I’ll be following his advice.)

Speaking of our 10th Anniversary, I hope you enjoyed the walk down memory lane with the couple of weeks of special shows. I particularly enjoyed seeing Charlotte appearing on the show at about two, when she sat on the kitchen bench with Elmo from Sesame Street and giggled all through the segment. And, what about one of our staff members at Barney Allen’s who said to my partner, after seeing an old show, that he didn’t realise I died my hair for TV – I’d forgotten that I used to have black hair. Oh, the joys of age!

Anyway, we’re looking forward to next year with the new season starting in March with a trip to the seafood paradise of South Australia’s Eyre and York Peninsulas. Then we’re off filming in Binna Burra Lodge and the Versace Resort in Queensland, and after that to New Caledonia to soak up some French culture, Pacific style.

But, that’s all in the future and what I really want to do is wish you all a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year, keeping in mind the 60’s supergroup Jethro Tull’s maxim “The Xmas spirit is not what you drink.”

Cheers, Huey

ps. Of course, signed copies of all my books are available. And, don’t forget my sauces just click on to the Products section on the website for details.
